I will not be able to measure up my ML7 for a few weeks. So can anyone tell me the height of the lathe center to the topslide flat?

I need it for some design calculations.

      Thanks in advance,

      Andrew.

According to lathes.co web site , 4" dia swing , so 2" to centre height.

Just to clarify before I go and measure, do you want height from the top surface of the compound slide (i.e. where the tool would sit if you still used the original toolholder) or from the T-slotted surface of the cross-slide?

I could always measure both…. blush

..nominally 5/8 / 15.88mm, – individual machines might be +/- a thou or two.. ..unless reground, all bets off in that case!

As Trevor and Diogenes have said, cross-slide to centre 2" (2.071" ) and top of compound to centre 0.625" (0.629" ) – my measurements in brackets.

I offer this in the hope it will help:

                  scan0002.jpg

I cribbed it from G.H.Thomas' book – he recommended that we each maintain a version of this diagram corrected to show our own 'as-fitted' dimensions.

                  Best regards,

Hello Folks that is great, just to clarify, it was centre height of lathe to the flat surface of the topslide (where the tool would sit.

Looks as though 5/8" is the answer plus a bed regrind!

Thanks to everyone for the help.

                    Andrew.
