      1. Hi All – Has anybody on the forum had any experience in building the Gauge One kit built models available from West Coast Models? Their ĹMS 2-6-4 tank locomotive looks an attractive model but no indication is give on the method of firing or if indeed they are live steam models. The plate work appears toto consist of a set of 22G etched nickel silver which raises the question  as to just how robust the finished models would be.  Any thoughts on the subject would be much appreciated before parting with hard earned cash

Isn’t nickel silver stronger than brass?

A brief excursion to the Charity Shop should provide an ample stock of EPNS for investigative purposes … commonly used for cutlery before stainless steel took over.

Note: __ To comply with recent forum requests for the elaboration of abbreviations: I should mention the ‘quasi-hallmark’ EPNS stands for

            Electro Plated Nickel Silver

Other interpretations of EPNS are available, but typically omit the stylistic affectation!

I think the model is a scaled up version of their general offerings for smaller gauges. So it is a shell to place on an electrified chassis. I suggest for further information you join the groups.io gauge 1 forum.

It’s obviously your choice, greensands … but having quickly browsed the web-site, I would be asking myself some serious ‘value-for-money’ questions before proceeding.
