Gas furnace troubleshooting

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a second hand Morgan furnace from a hobbyist who has sadly passed away.

I’m now setting it up and realised that I might be missing an important part. I don’t know the correct terms for the components so please bear with me: there is a fitting that mixes the gas with the air from the fan, and it bolts onto the furnace inlet. When i bolt the fitting in place there is a visible gap between the furnace inlet and the fitting (see images). Should there be a pipe connecting these two? Neither the fitting outlet nor the furnace inlet are threaded, so if there should be a pipe, how does it fit?

Are you sure that the gap is not to allow the gas jet to draw in air for combustion, and the fan is to boost the flame into the combustion chamber?

There will be someone on here who can advise you, better than I, having seen the fittings
