I know that the proper way of inlaying silver into brass is to undercut the groove then tap the silver wire in. I'm working on that, but in the meantime I'm wondering if anyone on here has tried faking inlay by running 55 silver solder into a square section groove then facing it off. For my purpose the colour contrast would be good enough, but I don't know how crisp the edge between the alloys would be. Anyone tried this or anything similar?

      Regards, Rob

I have done it with metal powder mixed with resin, just cut groove, fill with resin/powder mix and samd off when dry. If you go with solder then soft solder would give more of a silver look than silversolder which can be quite yellow.

I marked some of my tools using normal letter stamps then melted silver solder into the mark and filed back to flat and they look fabulous. Should work for your plan I’m sure. Are you engraving the market you wish to inlay? Mick

I've also filled checks in wood with powder/resin but found that the cheaper 'nail art' powders gave a brighter look than metal powders. Perhaps the resin i used wasn't totally clear?
