      @peak4

      I came across this video, which I presume can only be accessed by those with a Facebook account, but I still thought quite an interesting technique, which I’m sure could be further refined.

      Essentially a threaded rod/mandrel is clamped inside the tube/stub axle, and the thread cutting tool follows that pitch as the holder is manually rotated with a single point tool.

      Plain curved cutter used to clean up the weld infill, and then a thread cut to hold the retaining locknut; not sure I’d fancy motorway speeds on the repair though.

        These videos are better viewed on Youtube,  videos of men using antique machinery etc mostly come from Pakistan and they accomplish some amazing things using methods we would never think of. Usually wearing open toe sandals, no protective gear, goggles etc and sometimes carrying molten metal to a mould.

        Have a look at this one and be amazed  https://youtu.be/8T3pDJhBe8U?si=_vk1bvm6mizSsnR4

          Thanks for sharing that, Bill

          I accessed it fine without an account.

            That lathe must be badly worn, so that the gibs are so tight as to need so much effort to move the Saddle!

            Intriguing that no obvious effort to centre the work accurately in the 4 jaw!

            And what a place to work, not even rudimentary HSE there.
