Neil after reading the cc website and contacting them there is no issue with a link as long as its attributed properly here is a link https://wiki.creativecommons.org/wiki/Best_practices_for_attribution

          Russ,

You certainly do not need a Dropbox account to access my Dropbox so I'm not sure what Neil's concerns are.

          Neil,

The link that I put up also contains the additional drawings that were a bonus on the MEN CD, to encorage people to buy it. I believe it was Ron's intention that these should also be put into the public domain.

Not aimed at you Rod, I just mused that dropbox is a company that makes its money by selling file sharing services so to my warped imagination it promotes them more than sharing a file on here – others may disagree
I'm more concerned about the feedback Jason has had from the Motor Boys – they would clearly prefer it if people were not to share the file until a few things are cleared up. I've taken down the page on my own website.

I'd politely suggest folks might not want to share it in other places until the situation is settled.

As much as one would like to do the right thing, I think that given that Ron Chernich passed away in early 2014, and as it seems that during the intervening 18 months no one has made any serious attempt to try and take responsibility for the Plan Book, it would be a pity for it if it to disappear into oblivion. So instead it would be nice if it found a permanent home on some web site, perhaps 'Stub Mandrel' would be willing to restore his now deleted page.

It would of course be polite to get permission from the surviving Motor Boys where possible, but unless one of the Motor Boys actively objects, I don't see that there any ethical reasons against hosting the book on a not-for-profit site.

All I will say is that solicitors are involved in the matter so best left at that until they can sort things out.

It's worth pointing out that although the plans were CAD-drawn by Ron Chernich, they are the designs of many people – it's not just his work.

In view of Jason's comment, perhaps it would be better for the forum if a moderator would be good enough to remove the link in my post.

                  Thanks,

OK thanks. I'm not sure that Ron was a great respecter of copyright. The CD/DVD version of the website includes a "cookie" which is a scan of pretty well every article on i.c. engines published by M.E. surprise

I'm not really sure how relevant this is to the copyright issues mentioned above, but

this page may be of interest to those that undestand the situation.

                            John,

Given the chronology … Why exactly to you think my link is crazy ?

… It may be the last public statement on the matter.

More likely Ron's editorial almost a year later was the last thing said.

My own thoughts are for those that had the planbook to carry on sharing in private by e-mail and PM as has been done in the past and leave any public hosting/publishing for the solicitors to sort out.

                                Thanks, Jason … Duly noted

… and therefore I quote from that page:

The Ultimate MEN issue scheduled for next month will make the Motor Boy's Plan Book available, freely, to everyone as a download.

That simple statement should make any claim to copyright 'interesting'.
