Your argument implies 6,666,666 – 40,000 = 6,626,666 lives saved in the UK because of lock down restrictions, which would be phenominal if true,

B hell! I didn’t realise we we likely to lose 10% of the population. Who came up with that figure?

The number of actual deaths stands at 40,000 whic would give you 4,000000 infections or around 6% of the population which is in line with the antibody surveys currently being carried out.

Thus the effectiveness of the lockdown is seenby dividing the actual deaths with lockdown by the estimated deaths without lockdown which woud be 40,000/666,000 = 0.0006 or 0.6%.

Put it another way because of the lockdown, so far we have had 0.6% of the deaths we could have had if we had carried on as normal which is a pretty good argument for doing as we did.

An extra zero in there… 40,000 is 6% of 666,000.

Actually I think what I calculated was 1- (Max deaths-Actual deaths)/Max deaths which does give 0.6%

not entirely sure why at the moment.

So effectiveness would be 1-(actual /max) which would suggest a maximum of 94% effective.

I really should not try and do two things at the same time. I've been designing a cct board mostly.

The problem is it feels like Someone is lying to Us. We just cannot tell Who it is. Over here several People in the Medical field have reported (on the Internet wink) that the Government (USA) has increased funding to Hospitals reporting deaths due to the Virus, there by making a financial benefit to increasing the numbers. What's the truth?

Hi all, I have no idea where I posted first of all but must update those members who responded.. I have had a face to face with a Body movement specialist, no problems as far as he is aware. I also had a telephone consultation with a neurologist , he seems to leaning towards Cerebellar Ataxia. Do any of you suffer from or have a partner/spouse suffering from same? Can you advise on Medication etc?

Also not the optimum forum for medical discussions.

I think it was further back in this thread and lost amongst the assorted side-chatter.

People stuff isn't my field but I did once see a kitten born with cerebellar hypoplasia..the cerebellum having to do with co-ordination and damage leading to an 'intention tremor' – as in shakiness at the initiation of an action and needing to learn how to pause at initiation before doing it…

Nathan, 'ataxia' is just a long-established, typically opaque, medical term that describes a finding or phenomenon – disrupted muscular co-ordination and control – it's not a diagnosis. The term was invented long before there was much understanding of what the underlying mechanisms and causes may be. Giving a phenomenon a name doesn't get you much further – it's just a dustbin term: a container for all sorts of mischief. Cerebellar ataxia is just one of many types of ataxia, each with different causes and pathology. It sounds like you need a proper neurological assessment, which can't possibly be done over the 'phone. Don't mess about – get to the GP and make enough fuss to get a neurological specialist referral. You need a proper diagnosis before thinking about possible treatment, etc.

Cerebellar ataxia, if it is that, is a form of brain damage. There are at least a dozen or more different causes (including COVID19) so treatment could depend on what the cause is. No good asking for advice on forums as each case may be different.. Keep up with the neurologists etc. It can often take months – even six months — to arrive at a firm diagnosis with neurological problems, in my limited experience. Hang in there. There is good treatment for a lot of this stuff these days but it does take time to get there.

                                Hi Nathan,

You posted about your tremor in this thread back in march, this is the place for an update.

I hope things go well for you now you are getting some more specific details.

Apparently one cause is gluten, so while you wait for a fuller diagnosis you might want to try a gluten free diet for a few weeks.

Might be an idea to start a new thread in the 'Tea Room'.

The prime minister has made some strange comments about care homes recently. The care home that my sister works at as an RGN has kept free of coronavirus so far. The owners of the home used to accept patients from hospital at short notice until the beginning of March. There were tests at that time, but the NHS refused to test prospective transfers to the home before sending them. It seems that the homes owners made the right decision to stop transfers.

It appears that with the onset of the much predicted second wave of the Pandemic Virus, the British predictable reaction is to once again panic buy toilet paper, didn’t they learn from the first wave that toilet paper won’t protect against the virus!

Well I'm glad to hear its not just the Aussies. We had a limited , contained second wave in Melbourne, 2,000 miles away from us in North Queensland and the local supermarket here sold out of TP overnight. I guess nobody wants to die with a dirty bum.
