The NHS has always put a value on life – a necessary evil in the economic realities
Link – How NICE approaches value for money
The only 'good' thing about the enormous debts this disease is causing is that it affects most countries similarly so essentially the balance between them stays except those few countries with negative debt China, perhaps Germany and a few others. The sooner a country gets 'up and running' the better placed it will be to make headway in the race up the charts of power. That's why economies dithered over lockdowns and why they will still be considering the pros and cons of just letting things go rampant and get it over with. It's probably social media and associated public opinion that's holding many back?
However harsh that sounds the reality is that warfare comes down to economics. It's what lead to the collapse of the Soviet Union. It's what cost the UK the British Empire after 2 world wars. The Crusades failed due to greed. In Warfare it's more damging to the enemy to wound their soldiers than kill them – ties up resources and costs. The race between countries for trade and posturing for negotiating power tied to the strength of their economies has always been a form of warfare without overt armed conflict.
Boris experiencing a rough go through the disease may be benefit us with more sympathy and understanding.
It's all well and good arguing about a pandemic was forecast 'sometime' but so it the fall-out of climate change, terrorism, floods and other catastrophes. There isn't enough money to mitigate against them all.
Or indeed much that most of us can do to influence whatever comes next apart from following instructions. Everyone's life is finite so use it doing the stuff you enjoy.
