Toilet paper is apparently in short supply as everyone panics, I hear that soaps are also on the shortages list , is this because an element of the population who rarely if ever used it are now going to be washing their hands ?

As alternative you can take a roll of kitchen paper and cut in half, good excuse to go to the workshop and use the bandsaw. Niko.

Do not worry about toilet paper supplies! As long as Newspapers are obtainable you can tear them into small squares then pierce holes in a corner and hang them on a string from the toilet ceiling.

Sound advice based on my early years on this planet.

In my student days the Exchange and Mart was the preferred option.

If you do use kitchen roll for this purpose, just don't put it down the pan after use; it doesn't readily macerate and so can block toilets and drains quite effectively.

Toilet tissue has a low wet strength so it breaks up when wet, other paper wipers like kitchen roll have a high wet strength and are less inclined to break up. Don’t use the toilet brush, definitely a bit harsh.smiley

A number of things were disappearing off the shelves this morning (I'm not exactly sure why) but as I can still vaguely remember ration books – I have my own more cunning priorities and grabbed several weeks supplies of chocolate digestives and ginger nuts! My Grandad was always really delighted when he could get his mitts on those all that time ago, although I've never liked dunking chocolate biscuits myself…ginger nuts though are ideal…

With regards to the tricky subject of "wet strength" – I think 'Izal' paper must take some beating, it was almost totally non-absorbent and it's one thing that I certainly don't miss. Cannot see anyone rushing to hoard that!

Otherwise, it's heads down and hope for the best – although Sunday Lunch out with youngest son (and his charming Fiancé ) seems worth the risk….

                Take care everyone.

                  Don't worry!

In a deep railway tunnel underneath the Chiltern Hills the MOD has a 50,000 ton stockpile of W^D and Izal medicated toilet paper ready for civil emergencies.

                  Actually, do worry…

Hi, I knew an old Lady……………….. No, she didn't swallow a fly, (as far as I know) but she insisted on only having Izal loo rolls. She was about 80 when I used to deliver her groceries once a week, on my after school job. Soft loo rolls were becoming more popular then, but she would have none of it.

                    Regards Nick.

We see bad news about Covid 19 on the news everywhere and even at my local bottle shop where sales of Corona beer is down.

Good news if you like a brew at the end of the day as the price of their beer is on special. wink 2 smile p

When the Chernobyl incident in the 1980s affected the city of Kiev it was reckoned that the sales of Chicken Kiev dropped drastically. This sort of thing really defies logic.devil

The psychologists tell us that very few of our important decisions are purely rational or based on logic. Most of our big decisions tend to be emotional. Ask any car salesman. They look for the dilating pupils that indicate an emotional decision to buy now.

We are in Australia at the moment, been here about 3 weeks.

Last Monday Emirates flight Ek420 arrived in Perth with a passenger carrying the virus.

                              She has now self isolated.

Authorities are now anxiously trying to contact all passengers who were around the young woman.

We fly back on Ek421 at end of the month, crikey makes you think!!!!!

Airline bookings to Australia have now dropped by 77%.

Just be thankful that supermarkets don,t sell the army old style paper the waxy stuff that scratched like made when using it.

The security guard at my local shop was saying this morning that people are buying toilet paper like made. we managed to get a pack as we are running genuinely low, and there were people buying 4 or five 9 packs. Either they are afraid or they have constipationdevil

To reduce this to lavatorial pedantry, if you're constipated you don't need toilet paper

Bracken? Far too frondy and limited barrier… better off with rhubarn leaves. I did get 'caught short' doing some fencing work at the top of Fiona field Hill a while back.. fortunately I had a spade with me and there's plenty of sphagnum moss growing up there. Townies will just have to scoot their bottoms along the grass in the parks…
