Just doing some milling, thought I could smell bacon!

I’m stood there thinking that the wife was making me a bacon butty!

Looked up and saddened to see the smoke leaking out the motor…..

Just waiting for Amadeal to get back to me as to whether they can help with a motor (220v/600w if anyone has one gathering dust!)

        220V 600W covers a lot of motors…

        What machine is it?

        Robert.

          That’s a goid point Robert!

The machine in question is a Weiss VM3L (WMD20V).

It’s been a pretty good machine, bought it new 17 years ago.

That will be a brushed DC motor

Before scrapping the motor, it would be worth removing it from the machine and looking inside. Maybe the brushes have simply worn out.

I checked the brushes this morning, both fine. A couple of years ago I had a right nightmare with this one, it actually ate one of the brushes!!

I took it apart and skimmed up the commutator and it was back to normal.

I may have a look at a VFD set up, having converted my big lathe a few years ago, this could be worth a go.

I think it may be similar to the motor from a Seig x3.  If you post a picture and dimensions that would help.

                  Les.

Also look at the recent “brush wear thread” that was a 600W and mention of Amadel being able to source a 750W replacement

Jason, I’m waiting fora response from Amadeal.

                      Les, the X3 motor has a 12mm spindle, I need 10mm.

Amadeal came up trumps, new motor should be with me on Tuesday!

                        Excellent and thanks Hugh.

Many thanks to all at Amadeal for the excellent service.
