      HI all,

      so, i recently bought a Clarke cl500m lathe and had to dismantle it to get it home, upon reassembling I've lost the orientation of the wiring for the lathe motor.

      after a few days of searching i eventually found the American version wiring diagram for the motor, but of course thats for 110v and not 220v, but it was the closest i could find.

      wired it up and it works….sort of. it only runs in reverse.

      if the forward /reverse switch is switched it works one way but not the other, there's just a faint hum from the control box.

      i've tried switching the two black wires on the motor connector block but makes no difference to the direction of rotation.

      Would anyone have any info on what wires go where?

            Honestly, no. The motor does have d1 d2 d3 d4 on the connector block but other than that ive no idea what does what. I have brown, blue, a solid black wire and a black wire with an orange tag on. What I could do with is what wire coresponds to what D number on the motor. As I have no idea what termanals are what on the motor like start and run winding. Thanks for your help though

              You should be able to identify the start and run windings using a meter….

              The start winding goes via a capacitor and maybe a centrifugal switch, the winding will have a higher resistance than the run winding( once the capacitor charges..)….

              Maybe you can trace the motor wires from the terminals to where they go inside the motor?

                i was hoping i might not have to resort to that to be honest, electrics scare me abit. i know enough to be dangerous but the in-depth stuff leaves me a bit worried.
