I broke my bandsaw blade on my CY90 new bandsaw cutting 80mm aluminium round. I am a bit confused with the size required it states 51 inch x 1/2 I have looked on line but it seems rather baffling different teeth per inch and sizes. The Warco bi metal are rather expensive at £28.00, any recommended retailer out there that wont cost a fortune. The old blade carbon broke on the weld, I have only used it a few times, again any advice on blade type will be appreciated

Just give Ian a ring and tell him make and model and he will sort you out.

Another vote for Tuff Saws . My CY90 clone uses 51 1/4 " x 1/2" 14 TPI carbon blades . On the only occasion that a blade has broken on the weld Ian replaced it with no problems .

              Robert,

I would be inclined to use 10 tpi blades, they are less likely to clog on bar cuts. The 14 tpi blades are better suited to cutting tube and thin sections.

The usual guide is to aim at keeping two teeth engaged in the cut with thin sections, coarse blades bridge over the wall thickness and are likely to snatch with unpredictable results.

              Regards Brian

                Hi Robert,

You should take the blade back to where you bought it an have it repaired or replaced.

For a new band you could look here (usual disclaimer).

                Hope this helps.

                Peter.

Most outfits in NZ will rejoin bi metal blades broken at the weld free of charge, I had 3 of them break because of a problem the firm had been having with faulty tempering, they were sent to Auckland (the other end of the country, some would say another country). Ian S C

Thanks for all replies. I phoned Warco about the broken blade and they said that they will send a replacement, but I will get a bi metal blade as a spare 10 tpi.

                      Thanks again.

I order my blades from a Starrett supplier.

I prefer the variable pitch bi metal type
I don't know what they cost in the UK but 28 pounds is a lot in Australian dollar terms.

They use a special Starrett welding system to join them.
