Anodising kits

Has any one any experience of anodising kits and can point me in the direction of a good one please, it would be for small one off bits that I make for air guns so nothing to big would be required.

Are you sure you mean anodising rather than bluing

Yes anodising so the bits are coloured, bluing is just the barrels and not aluminium as a general rule.

Sorry Martin I just didn't associate aluminium with air guns thereagain my only experience is of a Webley Mk 3 .22

which I must have had for nearly 50 years

Classic Plating do a starter type kit for £60, mate had one for motorcycle bits and got quite acceptable results. **LINK** . I'm going to get him to do the action of a PCP I'm currently working on, take it that's what you want it for.

Caswell do a superb kit but that's around £400

Thanks Mick, I was looking at one from Gateros **LINK** that looks very similar and about the same money (and I could just nip down and pick one up and maybe call in at castle on my way) you can also include the power supply for an extra £76 as to Caswell their kit is basically the same with a couple of fish tank heaters (£20) hot plate (£12) and S/S bucket (£12) off the bay, I make butt hooks, springer cocking lever handles, cheek piece posts etc, so just wanted to add another string to my bow, if they was any good and worked.

Is HMG's crackdown on acid throwing hooligans going to make it difficult to get sulphuric acid in sufficient quantity for that anodising tank?

Power for the aluminium anodising is provided by either a 12v car battery or battery charger used in conjunction with the current controller included in the kit.

Is a charger with auto (digital?) control switching system going to work with these kits?

Like what you get from Lidl etc?

I just chucked an old 12v type Selmar charger into the dump last week because it buzzed like a hornets nest

I know what you mean I spoke to some one at Gateros yesterday and it sounds like a real faff depends on what grade ali you use, have buckets with acid, dyes, sealing, cleaning etc. everywhere in a limited space, how long you leave it in the tank as to what colour/shade you are going to get, think I'm going to give it a miss for now.
