As a relative beginner i read with interest the series in ME about the American Popcorn engine. Having almost completed my first engine (Elmers tiny) and also Tubal Cains 'Polly engine' i was considerig this for my next project as i find it easier to follow the step by step build rather than just a set of plans at the moment. I will be getting a mill at some point but my question is regarding the lathe work – I have a Chester Conquest lathe and as i wont be changing this for some time was wondering if this has the capacity to produce all the neccesary parts for the popcorn engine ?

Also any advice or recomendations on plans e.t.c. for any other suitable projects in order to advance my skills / knowledge would be of great help.

      Kind regards

      Chris.

With 180mm swing you should not have a problem fitting the popcorn engine onto your lathe.

Drop Stew a PM and if you ask nicely he will send you a set of plans and you may also want to look up his build threads on this engien as there is often more in them than mag space allows, they can usually be found on HMEM and Madmodder.

              Hi Chris,

As Jason says Stew would certainly let you have a set of his plans. A lot of the guys who were following the thread asked for and received a PDF version of his plans. The initial plans were really a 'Beta' version and he asked for bugs to be reported and many were discussed on the thread. If Stew is away as Derek says (I recall him complaining about a sore arm after his jabs for the trip – sad ) I am sure that an appeal on the thread that Jason has linked to will yield results as the guys there are a really helpful bunch. The build is well worth looking at.

              Regards

              Terry
