Saw a Catalina overhead at Romford today, heading south. Love the sound of those big radials.

A couple of days late, on the 16/9/16 (100 yrs after the Kiwis arrived on the Somme) a Bristol Scout (built in NZ by The Vintage Aviator Ltd., TVAL), flew over the Caterpillar Valley Cemetary, Longueval, France and dropped Poppy petals over the fields where 2000 NZ soldiers died 100 yrs ago.

There was supposed to be a TVAL Albertross, but it had a bit of a whoopsie landing a few days ago.

Have a look at the TVAL  Facebook site, and their web site, you might be there for an hour or so.

Saw the Canadian Lancaster flying around yesterday when visiting the Southern Ontario Model Engineers meet at the Pumphouse Museum in Hamilton, ON, Canada.

Also, a Tiger Moth, but the Lancaster always takes the cake!

(yes, I do have a photo of it, but not really that great a photo…)

Doesn't get much simpler than this. And you can even make your own engines:

Not your normal aircraft sound! Three Merlins. The Latest Mosquito rebuild has just flown overhead accompanied by a Spitfire. Unfortunately I was in my workshop and my camera was inside.Better luck the next time, as the glide path to Ardmore aerodrome is overhead.

                Please no more Edith Piaf

                I'd rather listen to Boyzone.

I enjoyed seeing the wee aircraft, but vintage Piaff was just wonderful! Good job we all have different musical tastes! I was so moved that I got straight on to Amazon and ordered a Piaff DVD.

I think Francoise Hollande should make an apology…

There i svery little music I find truly 'orrible, typically those artists whose songs are characterised by over-processed vocals. But I find mournful, over-wrought French songs a painful experience. My daughter keeps playing the original of Seasons in the Sun at me

Umm … sort of! Did my first flying hour in the old girl – Swanton Morley on a Spring evening tour of E Anglia.

6000 hours later, the all pervading smell of Avgas, old leather, dope, Elsan fluid and … vomit!!disgustremains in memory. Rumble, rumble of a pair of Cheetahs and 156 (?) turns of the gear retract handle. Hey Ho!

Good news, the latest Mosquito is doing test fights, it has tempory markings as NZ2337, a Mossie of the post war RNZAF 75 Squadron, painted in silver dope, with the 75 Sq black spinners. YCF looks great, they have been using a two seat Spitfire as a chase plane, and I think its been having trouble keeping up.

A sad incident. In these days of entangled outsourcing (largely, in my experience, to shuffle off responsibility) my guess is that the case will come down to who was holding the maintenance parcel when the music stopped.

There are few photos of the latest Mossie, its new owner Paul Allen, of the Flying Heritage Collection wants it all kept secret, but I got this on it's return from the first flight. You will see that as it's a T Mk III dual control trainer, it has no guns, there is the hole in the nose for the gun camera. Ian S C

Just had a Tornado fly over the bungalow, pretty noisy although he was at about 1000ft. Heading south and flying fairly slowly – lost maybe? I hope he sorts it out, or he'll be in controlled airspace in no time.

I live only a few miles from RAF Lossiemouth, so can contrast the noise made by Tornados and Eurofighter Typhoons. It's widely believed in our village that one Tornado is as noisy as a squadron of Typhoons. A bit of an exaggeration, I'm sure, but the Typhoon is definitely the very much quieter aircraft of the pair. The noisiest aircraft we've had over the village in recent weeks was a Chinook helicopter. I'm deaf, and it even sent me running outside to see what it was.

Mike – Both the Tornado and Typhoon engines have reheat. Without reheat on you get a lot of noise. With reheat you get even more. I sure I did not have to tell you that. I agree with you about the Chinook.

I have spent quite a few "happy" hours at Marham but I did prefer the pubs in Kings Lynn.

Thanks JA. Both aircraft use reheat for take-off, I believe, but by the time they get within hearing range of my house it will be switched off, I assume.

It's surprising how loud a C130 Hercules is when it goes over at treetop height

Regardless of flying speed the C130's Alison turbo prop engines run at a constant speed and the propellers do all the work hence a lot of noise at all speeds, having stood next to a runway at Heathrow to watch Concord take off it beats Phantoms any day and I would put the SR71 Blackbird a close second.
