Hello all. It’s good to be back on the forum after a hiatus!

I need to move the following machinery fairly soon to its new home and am hoping for some suggestions:

ML7 on cabinet stand* ; Tom Senior M1 ; Colchester Master mk 1 ; floor standing band saw

*can be dissembled and moved by 2 people but included for completeness

Since all are already off the ground my initial thoughts are pallet truck to a Luton van with 750Kg tail lift. Tail lift the whole thing was still on the pallet track. Repeat the other end.

I have scaffold poles, machine skates and a pry bar already.

      ———-

I have been advised by an experienced friend that these Luton tail lifts are not always the most reliable and can be slightly wonky etc. Obviously there’s a slight risk the machines would roll off!

      Any advice gratefully received.

My general advice is, the 3 machines quoted are very top heavy so be very very careful. The net is full of horror stories where lathes etc have toppled over.

There are lots of previous posts about moving different machines on the forum. If you do a search you will find them.

I have seen machines tiped over even by machine movers. If you can bolt them down to a top reinforced pallet using a sheet of plywood on top and steel plates underneath with the largest threaded rod through the bolt down holes the plywood and plate under the pallet. Then using some ratchet straps stay the item from the outer edge of the strong part of the lathe making sure you dont bend a lead screw etc by packing with piecec of wood. Then all you need is a pallet truck and tail lift. Failing this call Landy Lift for a quote with his hydraulic lift hoist.

An engine hoist can maybe get the mill off its stand to be less top heavy. For anything that has to stay on its stand I suggest starting with a piece of 3ft 4×2 each end with through bolts to make that toppling over much more difficult.
