I’ve got quite a few adjustable spanners.

Not my “go to” tool, but can come in handy.

Trested myself to a new set last week. Rather annoyingly, the new ones have the opposite direction thread to all my other ones, obtained over 45 years.

It’s just so annoying having to think when I adjust them.

The hot weather ain’t helped either!

Yes, some of mine are like that.. annoying, but better than nothing when the fastener’s to thin to get a proper grip with Stillsons😁

Out of my own collection, these are my favourites, and no screws to confuse.
They can’t always be used due to access restrictions, but are excellent even on rounded hex fittings.

Hi Bill, in my first job when I finished school, they had a large one of those, which I used many times. They fit any nut in their range, and never slipped, but they were too bulky for some places, but a good tool overall.

              Regards Nick.

I have several, the Bahco ones are the best quality. Whichever way the thread went, I would always turn it the wrong way at first. Afew years ago, Black & Decker made a motorised adjustable spanner, I never did buy one to find out if they were any good.

It’s the metric ones that are reverse thread – simples!

                    Hi Jimmy B.

I believe the reason why earlier Crescent type copies  had the screw operating in the opposite direction was to get around the original patents. After the patents expired many Crescent type then had the normal direction to open.

It’s actually quite handy. I have two 14 inch adjustable spanners one of each hand. When you use them together your thumbs have to work in the same direction to either open or close. Very confusing if they were not handed.

My Bacho adjustables, Made in Sweden have “invented by Bahco” on the handles.

Isn’t there somebody here who’s building two T/E? – you could stand between them with a spanner in each hand and halve the assembly time?

More useful when trying to get on both ends of a bolt actually.
