Can someone let me know the considered upper spindle speed for these small lathes please? The headstock bearings are plain cast iron with a hardened shaft (or so I believe)..

The similar Flexispeed lathe instructions gave a maximum speed of 1000rpm. These have un-hardened spindles as I suspect was the case with the Adept and Wizard since that were built down to a similar price.

Ok Rod, many thanks. The spindle looks well made with no wear so it was a guess as to its hardness. I have tried the spindle with a file now and it is not hardened.

The background to this question is that I have been given both a Wizard and a Super Adept. The Wizare is in good condition together with most accessories. Not so the Adept but it might not be beyond restoring.
