I have a 3 phase car lift with a neutral on the 3 phase supply. I have a 12hp static converter but it only as a 4 pin plug with no neutral. Is there a way to add a neutral to it. I see transwave converters have a neutral on there converters. 20250811_17322220250808_17432720250811_17331020250811_17331320250811_17324420250811_17323220250811_17325920250811_173250

A 5 pin socket could be fitted but see my reply to your other question. Noel.

You need to find a schematic for the lift.
The converter does not have a neutral and not easy to add for full power. However the neutral on the lift may only be for the control circuit and could be rewired to the single phase input.
A balanced 3 phase load like a motor does not need a neutral.

          Robert.

The blue wires you see on the control box are the neutral from the contactors then go to the main on/off switch at the bottom.

I have even removed the blue wires to see if it would work without them but it didn’t.

I live in a small town in the Midlands and I cant even find a electrician who will come and have a look for me. Thanks for replying guys before much appreciated. I’m so stuck on this problem.

                      Hi,

The phase 1 and neutral connections going to the control unit (left hand side of first diagram) need to go to the single phase 240V mains input to your converter.
To be clear, Disconnect both live and neutral currently connected from the 3 phase input to the control board and connect the CONTROL BOARD to the 240V.

I can’t make out if there are any neutral connections on the second diagram. Can you download the PDFs?

                      Robert.

It’s not clear how well your converter will cope with two big motors and a dead load. The “inching” often used on a vehicle lift may be an issue.

Thanks Robert I can try a upload the file on here but when I add pitures they seem to come out blury. But there not before I add them. I’m very basic at electrics very very actually but I cant get any help from electricians my end. People don’t seem to want to work nowadays.

                            Many thanks Rob

Having been caught by SIMPLE jobs that turn out to be a nightmare, it’s not so much don’t want to work as don’t want to get involved in something that could go badly wrong – leaving nobody very happy ! The hoist is probably made as a single phase unit for places where there is no 3 Phase, you have a 3 phase unit and No 3 phase. There are ways round it but will take time and some money but if you have little knowledge of electrics the cost will go up dramatically. I live in a village with only 2 Phases, so I built my own 3 Phase generator – because I could. Good luck. Noel.

Hi noel I meant the electricians in my area don’t want the work.

That is what I understood and gave you a reason why they may not want to get involved. Eg I was Asked to fit a control box on a compressor, did it ! Then the motor was knackered, fitted new motor only to find the tank was corroded through and the machine was scrap ! I was left holding a £ 300 baby ! Noel.
