      Hi,

Does anybody have a 3/4BSF tap? I am looking for a hole to be tapped into a piece of Aluminium, Brass or Stainless to hold the collar of a dremel. I am not that bothered which and can supply the material if necessary. The piece is going to be 30mm x 100mm x 10mm thick, or imperial equivalent, so it should be easily postable.

I am not looking for a freebie- happy to pay the going rate, I just dont want to have to buy a tap and drill bit that i am never likely to use again.

If anybody can assist, I would be most grateful.

      Mark

I thought they had a 3/4"x 12 UNS (Unified Special) thread which has a different thread angle to BSF.

You may get away with an obscure M19x2.0 but that really wants single pointing.

BSF may work as the plastic casting is not to that high a tollerance

you could be correct- it would explain why they chose what I had assumed to be an obsolete and obscure British one, rather than a Unified. From what I have read about the male threads on the dremel is that they are pretty sloppy, and so the BSF should fit. I read somewhere that a 19 x 2 will work too. I imagine that a UNS tap would be made to order and that the chance of somebody having one of those is absolute zero!?

sorry Jason, just seen your edit which says most of what I just have.

                  Hi Mark,

What about using a two or three mm thick steel plate, boring a 3/4" hole and mounting the dremel with it's own plastic nut.

                  Peter.

                    Peter,

that is a good suggestion. It is certainly a plan B, and/or something to try out first.

                    Thanks

                    Mark

Well I had to clean off some rust to be able to read what size taps they were but 3/4"x12BSF fits. It does need about 2mm taking out to clearance so the adaptor will screw down snug to the body as the plastic thread is not moulded all the way.

                        Mark,

I have a set of 'as new' 3/4" BSF taps. If that's of any help PM me.

Technically 3/4"-12 UN is part of the UN fixed pitch series, not UNS.

                        Regards,

                        Andrew

                          Jason,

Thiose taps would be an excellent test of the 'cheap cola' treatment. Are you up for soaking them for a weak in value coke, then reporting back?

I'll have to go out and get some cheap stuff only got the real thing.
