Hi,

I am a retired engineer with a passion for building things. I trained as a marine engineer and also worked on helicopters during my tome in the armed forces. Following that I managed fabrication workshops before moving on to engineering management in the wire rope and lifting equipment sectors. I have helped to build two microlights aircraft among the many projects I have undertaken. I have a garage workshop which I have equipped with a Warco WM16B Milling machine and recently I have changed my Warco WM 180 for the fantastic Warco D210E.
At the moment I am working on an inverted V twin steam engine, the plans for which I downloaded from Model Engineering website. I Hope to have this finished by July.

Funny that – my own reaction was – great to see the use of “contemporary” style fasteners.

Not a criticism but rather a reflection/observation on the tendency to follow patterns.

As I don’t produce anything myself this observation shouldn’t be taken seriously.

Sorry to offend the traditionalists but there is very little clearance between the frame and the inner valve rod so I opted for the bolt shown. In real life it looks quite good. I will try a few hex head bolts before I declare the model “finished”

I am not sure whether this is should be treated as traditional as I have been unable to find any other examples other than The Chiltern V twin. If anyone has more information about a real world full size example I would like to know more.

There was a rather nice set of castings done some time back by Helix Engineering. This is a nicely built example

I think Morgens used metric fasteners and Julius’s version would also be metric. It is possible to buy those with smaller hex heads, I get mine from GHW in Germany
