Fitted a digital readout to my Boxford lathe last week and I just thought I would show how I did it.

I’m one of those guys that absolutely hates permanently modifying my machines. I try to make any modifications reversible, which often translates to “more difficult”.

This turned out quite well. I made 2 bed clamps based on the official Boxford carriage stop and bolted the dro to them. The biggest benefit was having a nice flat/ level surface to mount to. Perhaps not the prettiest solution but I may add some aesthetic chamfering later.

Handy solution that can be applied to other lathes in part. For information for non Boxford users the moving part, photo 2, is on a drop down from the saddle which conveniently has machined flats at the rear for a taper turning adaptor.

My projects don’t always go to plan, but after a bit of head scratching this all worked out nicely. Even the dro bar is tucked away, protected from damage under the overhang of the bed.

I just need to come up with a tidy solution for the cross slide now.
