      I started making this grinding setup some time ago but stopped due to other more pressing jobs. It occurred to me today that unlike the Accute table on which it’s based it may be more useful to me with a series of tapped holes in the plate. Unlike the original this one is a bit thicker at 6mm so should happily support M6 tapped holes. I’m wondering about how many holes and the spacing, any suggestions? I’ve seen thicker plates drilled and tapped with lots of holes for mounting stuff but can’t remember what they’re called, anyone know?

            Thanks Michael and Bernard. Initial thought is 25mm centres but I’ll have another look on the net. I also need to avoid the mounting brackets on the underside of the plate.

                Yes, I think they are called Pallets. I went with a 20mm grid in the end. Only part way through, it got too hot in the shed.

                  You could just put four holes in the base plate and mount a pallet on that. That way you can add extra holes as needed to the pallet and at any time start a new one if the existing one is not suited to a specific job. Maybe have one with an array of screw and dowel holes and another with T slots.

                    Hi Vic,

                    If as you say, you have done some modifications to Harold Hall’s grinding jigs, why not write a article about them for ME&W? The Editor needs such articles and I believe that you would receive payment, so much a page, I think.

                    I have built one to the drawings so I for one would be very interested to read up any mods.
