      I have recently bought a 1957 Roundnose in need of restoration, I have now bought another for parts to help with this restoration. The problem is that this second lathe is at the bottom of a fairly long garden in a shed with a narrow path leading to it. This Lathe is going to have to be dismanteled to get it out has anyone any tips for doing this in particular I would like to remove the main gearbox and also the saddle to reduce weight, any and all advice appreciated.

          I dismantled mine to put it into a celler workshop 23 years ago

          I cant remember anything being particularly difficult to do

          It left the base cabinet as one with motor and switch gear installed

          bed ,headstock, gearbox saddle, tailstock and back panel as parts

            Thanks Ian, I think the only thing I am unsure of is how the saddle comes off, is it just a matter of removing the 4 bolts that hold the apron on to the saddle and then sliding the saddle off the tailpost end. ( are these 4 bolts going down from the top of the saddle into the apron the only things that are attaching the 2 ) .

              It was a long time ago 23 years now

              I'll have a look at my lathe as see if I can remember

              I think after removing the apron the saddle lifted off vertically

                      If the path is smooth you can probably push it along. Or hire machine skids.

                        I wish there are steps all the way down to the shed, one bonus though just had a phone call the machine is dismanteled heaviest part is the bed, going to collect shortly, takeing some muscle..
