      Hi all,

I'm building the frame plates for the 3.5" Invicta. The plans seem to be missing a dimension which sets the angle of the cylinders. There is a motion center line that starts from the rear main wheels, but no indication of the angle of that line.

Is the angle not that critical? There are a few other measurements lacking as well so it makes scribing out the lines rather difficult.

I do hope you understand what I mean.

      Thanks,

      Alex

          Alex,

The angle of the cylinders is given as 30 degrees to the horizontal in the original LBSC article on constructing The 'Canterbury Lamb'  (Model Engineer, 10th July 1952, Vol.107, No.2668, pages 55 – 58).

What other measurements/dimensions are you missing?

          Regards,

          Phil.

Thanks Phil. Now I should be good to go. Unfortunately I don’ t have the building article so just relying on the plans.

Im making it in 71/4 using the 31/2 gauge drawings. There is one definate error (trying hard to remember!). It relates to the d valve linkage pivot arm pin/boss dims. The pivot arm has a phos bush in it but if you make it to drawing it wont fit. Work through the various dims with referance to distance from outer edge of the frame plate to the linkages and you will see that the protruding boss depth is way too big – twice what it should be.

                Fizzy,

Thanks for pointing that out. I believe that you mean the triangle shaped rocker arm? Here´s a link to a picture which shows that part. **LINK**

Please correct me if I´m wrong. I don't have the plans at hand this late hour. By the way, do you work with castings or stock material?

                Alex

Well, I think the best thing to do is start off machining the cylinders complete with steamchests, and then make the valve linkages to line up properly with the valve spindles.

What I’ m worriyng for more is how much/little side play is needed.
