What amused me was the fellow repairing a 'share-bike' at a repair shop – why bother? Send the owner to collect a new one from any to the 50,000 standing around.

Amazing that those folk can be so prolific in manufacture, and so dumb in business..

Shows what happens when unbridled capitalism sees a large untapped market and gets the bit between its teeth.

And i thought we had a problem with them here in Sydney !

In Melbourne they were pulling these things out of the Yarra river by the barge load ! There is one about 3 km off the coast of Sydney – thats were the gps signal went dead so i would say it went for a swim !

I hate the damned things because they are left all over the place – usually broken , the backpackers and university students ride them around of a night after they have been punted from the pubs and bars because they are blind drunk and it is only a matter of time before one of them gets killed .

+1 – Happens more often than we like to admit.

According to the song by Katie Melua " There are nine million bicycles in Beijing" so a few thousand more won't make much impact. I am sure if all those wrecked ones were sent to India and Africa most would be back on the road pretty quick. Colin

We have the yellow OFU ones in sheffield

they certainly get left in amusing places up trees on top of traffic signs etc

                        apparently theres 2000 of them

they certainly seem to be well used so far….we only had them 3 months now

There are oversupplied *cities* in China, which no one want to inhabit and which are going to be thrown away and you are fretting about bikes.

Their carbide inserts gone even cheaper and now I am getting these for $0.30 each… and they are working very well.

If you think that they are dumb in business, go and compete with them. Try to sell them some European engeneering goods to begin with. Good luck.
