Does anyone know if an ML7 topslide will fit a Super 7?

By topslide do you mean the Compoud or the crosslide. The ML7 crosslide is not as long as the super 7. 3 slots as apposed to 4 on the S7. The compound on my S7B fits in a hole in the crosslide, the ML7 bolts on the top. Not sure about earlier S7 though.

You would need to substitute the ML7 spigot by a dovetail to match the S7 topslide.

Many thanks for the suggestions. The reason for the query is that a friend of mine has a newly acquired Super 7 that has been abused by someone with a hacksaw. My friend is a bit of a perfectionist and has rebuilt the lathe to a high standard nd would like to replace the damaged topslide (compound slide) but has been unable to find a Super 7 one and so wondered if an ML7 one would fit.

My friend is grateful for the suggestions but a little puzzled by the reference to a dovetail on the S7 topslide. The reason being that the damaged topslide that is presently on his machine has no dovetail. Is the dovetail common to all S7s or is his present one not standard?

He has spoken to Myfords but they could not offer any help.

Here is a photo of the undersides of an ML7 style topslide (left) and S7 ditto (right):

In this case the ML7 spigot has been removed to permit the slide's use elsewhere but the locating hole (now threaded) is clearly visible in the middle of the slide; the corresponding feature on the S7 is a circular dovetail and it is this feature which I suggest would need to be duplicated on the ML7 to allow its use on the S7 cross slide.

A simpler alternative might be to secure the ML7 slide by tee nuts although the S7 tee slot spacing is different.

Is the lathe perhaps an ML7R

… that one has the S7 spindle, but uses the ML7 slides,

A photo would quickly clarify.
