Hello all,

I have an issue with Norris. Am I right in saying that if I remove the 3 cap bolts from the back plate, the front part should just pull away from the back plate?

Will upload pictures in a mo.

Forgot to mention, I need to split it to clean it as it seems to be coated in crap and rust on the inner and is stiff to move.

don't forget to put a location mark on the chuck and backplate before you separate them.

Second Speedy Builder's comment about making a witness mark.

Removing the 3 screws should let the backplate come free of the chuck, but don't forget that if it has been fitted properly it will be a very tight fit. With crap and gunge could have become "glued" together. Giving it a good soak in wd40, paraffin, w.h.y. and a tap all round the edge with a mallet will help free it.

Thank you very much, yes it was full of crap, it was a badly smoke damaged and had been covered in what ever melted off the shelf above. So wanted to make sure before I took wd40 And a mallet to it. I have never dismantled a lathe before so I have marked everything. Lol. Probe rely overkill but it works.

I used moly grease on rebuild , on the pinions (bits the chuck key turns ) and it works well.

Thank you for the tip Ian, I was wondering that but thought the swarf may cause issues with it. I try and limit the daft questions as I will need help in the future and would like some friends. Lol
