I've got a week off. l Hope to make some progress and move the new workshop along a bit. I'm still at the build benches stage. I've been without it for a year.

I only hope Macdonalds is open Christmas day, so I can get some fast food, to save any hold ups.

Take your time to make a very accurate dummy nose piece first concentrating on the register diameter. The thread in the new backplate may benefit by being a little sloppy to allow the backplate to centre repeatedly on the concentric register IYKWIM.

Last finishing touches to a kitchen I have been doing and then pop into a regular client for a quick dod job, should be done by lunchtime then I'm off for two weeks.

Will no doubt spend a day or three in the workshop working on the R&V and Ruston Hornsby engines and may be tempted to make a start on something else. Also got a package from ARC sitting under the tree.

If I ever get done with work projects , I have all my material lined up for a bass drum pedal I want to build! Should only take a day or so but there is the small matter of freeing up machine space from other jobs to be dealt with first…

I'm with you kfc for me. I hope to light my allchin for a steam up on Boxing Day and if I had been a bit more prepared I would paint the gear covers on my fowler showman but I seem to have lost the paint colour chart if any one has any idea maroon or black it would help as the alternative is tv and I don't fancy that , Christmas greetings to you all and thanks for all the help and advice I've been given this last 12 months

Last afternoon in workshop tomorrow and then straight back in after Christmas as soon as it is slightly warm. I have to finish the manufacture of a large number of small square nuts and square headed bolts.

                      Have a good Christmas everyone.

I expect to have some workshop time, and have planned the following:

Annual megaclean and oiling/greasing of machine tools

Find out why the guillotine is hiccuping, and fix it

Swap the surface grinder and shaper, and extract the broken drive arm from the shaper so I can repair it

Visit A&E after doing mysefl a mischief extracting the shaper drive arm

Make a collar to attach the high speed milling spindle to the CNC mill

Screwcut some adaptors for the dead weight pressure tester and experiment with making Bourdon tubes

Drink port with cheese and biscuits

                        Andrew

My plans are some basic tool maintenance, and diagnosing why my good drill chuck no longer self ejects from the tailstock. A bit of a clearout in the garage is probable

I might make a start on some tool sharpening stuff.

We're not working next week, but there's another pair of jacks that need to be lower so I'll probably cut them down and make the trolley for the compressed air cylinder a bit safer to use.

In between all of that, we've a number of quarter peals and other ringing arranged

Swamped with motorcycle and petrol engine radio controlled car (Buggy things) work for others to make much progress for myself. Four or five days should clear up most of the bits, radio control man can wait. Then on to some long planned work on my pre war bike.

I have done some of my best and most inventive work over xmas in years gone by.

The in laws would be staying over, and I would escape to the shed, after cooking xmas dinner for all.

This xmas I have 6 miniature injectors to sort out for friends.

Hope you all have a super xmas!

                                      Cheers,

                                      Julian

Not quite in the workshop, I'm off to the mountains with my fly rod and a box of home tied trout flies as it's forecast to be 100° + for the next week down here.

Rocky Valley dam, Pretty Valley dam and the Upper Murray (Indi) are much more cooler options.

All have safe and merry Christmas whatever you do.

Sod the workshop, I do this all year for a living, nice to have 5 days off to play with the Delectable Debs.

Mind having said this she is low on one of her products that she sells so probably go in for 3/4 of a day and run the CNC lathe, that should get stock levels back up a tad.

At least this thread has cleared up the question of who is responsible for the plague of fast food outlets (and probably coffee places) in my fair country. My only trips into McD are 'cos they have clean toilets.

Personally I made up a huge saucepan of stew: onions, mushrooms, jalopeno peppers, leeks, carrot, cabbage, peas, sweetcorn, diced steak etc: Good for 3-5 days in the fridge and microwave as needed……and i'd take a thermos of coffee rather than pay silly prices…

Curry houses I'll accept… and the better quality Jamaican takeaways if you can find one doing a good jerked pork or curried goat.smiley.

Now to battle with a 300-mile round trip to check on my bedridden 98yr old mum and take stuff for her carers…

Same here, even in China and, perhaps more surprisingly, in Francewink

For me, Christmas morning cooking a British style Christmas lunch. Then drinks on the terrace in the sun. Then Skype call to the grandchildren in the afternoon.

Boxing day lunch in the mountains for a white Christmas then perhaps some workshop time on Tuesday.

Here in N Scotland have been looking round for stuff that might blow away, got the tractor shed tied down to the tractor, so should be ok. Will be happy when the storm passed and the new roof is still on. I have a bookshelf to finish then get tidied , then back to the hot-air engine that I have not seen for weeks. Beef rib for xmas. Fast food ? bah. Off to pub this lunchtime, need to check holiday openings.
