You might want to go to file_manager/explorer/my_PC. look at the C: drive

      Thanks for the thoughts, Mark

All the appropriate housekeeping had been done on the C: drive before I started

Job’s done and I’m just waiting for delivery of a 2.5” adapter for the tray, from that nice Mr Ali

      .

P.S. __ There is very little stored on this PC … As mentioned in my opening post, it is basically acting as a glorified capture-card for some microscope cameras that are not compatible with the Mac

I went the same route as Michael and bought a Fideco.

I used the ‘offline cloning’ feature to recreate the system onto a new SSD and after a few hours the task was complete.

Whilst my 2015 vintage laptop was apart, it was given a 16gb RAM upgrade and a good clean inside.

Startup time has decreased from 9 mins 20 secs down to 55secs, so I’m very happy indeed with the result. All programs now open almost instantly and it really does feel like a new computer.

I’d have done this years ago if I’d realised how much of an improvement it would make. 😉

          Martin.

I have done this both for myself and for others on desktops and laptops.  Things have improved over the years and the last dew times I did it I just used the software the disk manufacturer supplied on their website.  These days this software is freely available and totally trust worthy.  My 20 year old laptop now has Windows in 7 and 10 versions with 10 on SSD and HDD.  Good luck.
