      Right again Neil,

      Stiffness = Softness sad

      I should have stuck with the deflection for a cantilever Δ = WL3/3EI

      Bill,

      Your photographs of the toothbrushes show they are different designs.

      As Hopper suggests, try swapping them over.

        Hopper and Sam, thank you, Hopper, particukarly for waking up my dormant intelligence cells!!blush (especially for NOT pointing out that it was "bleeding obvious"!!) Of course that should be the first step and has now been done – results will require a week or so.

        Neil – only me, SWMBO has her own.

        Mark – constantly – but none have access to my bathrooms!!

          Well then chaps – for all those who have been waiting with 'bated breath and unable to contain their excitement at the possible revelations, we have an answer … it was the toothbrush what done it!!! Hopper pointed out the investigatory route and Sam correctly identified the cause and the culprit. The two brushes are, indeed, very slightly different in design and the culprit version allows minute quantities of 'slurry' to percolate through the body, down to the charger base, where it settles into 'yucky goo … that is a technical term, of course!. Soooo, problem identified but not cured. Thank you to all contributors – ME Forum is magic!!smileyyes

            I'm pleased to know, Bill.

            How will you fix it, cos it seems like a design or manufacturing fault.

            I reckon Big Clive would be interested to pull it apart, see …  http://bigclive.com

              Back again Bill.

              I thought you'd be interested in the (potential) consequences of water leaking into the inside of your cordless tooth brush.

              Matthias doesn't often 'DO' strip-downs.

                Stripping down a Braun, rather than a Phillips, can be seen here.

                  A good one Rod. Not so brutal.

                  I noticed that I was holding my breath at several stages as his soldering iron touched where it shouldn't have.

                  With several thermoplastic mouldings, there was a potential for one or other to be polyacetal (POM).

                  The fumes from burning POM can lift your head off, so be careful chaps.

                    So should one use the cerium oxide or diamond paste polishes, or stick with Solvol Autosol,which comes in a handy tube?

                      If there is a problem with tooth goo running down inside the device, would it not make sense to brush your teeth while hanging upside down?

                          While we are discussing teeth, these tiny brushes are great for cleaning model engine spraybars and removing swarf from small tapped holes (especially blind holes) Interdental Brushes

                          Does this qualify for MEW 'Readers' Tips' Neil?

                          * Danny M *

                          ps. Why does 'swarf' get underlined with a red squiggle, surely it's a common word on this forum?

                            I prefer to use an ultrasonic.

                            You do have to take a deep breath before putting your head in, upside is you can do your ears at the same time.

                            Mind you don't have it too hot tho'

                            Regards
