The thinners for Hammerite are quite expensive and I have used petrol in the past for cleaning brushes after use. Although I have never used petrol to thin the paint it would probably work fine if the proper stuff was unavailable. Worth a try.

Why not just say the word?

I'm also puzzled by this and constant references to a "well known auction site" instead of ebay. Why?

        Rod

I presume people know this site is funded through advertising, and that means they sometimes feel awkard recommending sources that don't support it.

That said, we don't censor mentions of such suppliers, but we do take a dim view of non-advertisers who try to abuse the site (like one company who created a user account and started filling their albums with images from their online catalogue!)

If i were someone in a position of authority then may be i'd need to be careful about what i mention, having said that it's usually fairly easy to spot apart a genuine user from a total faker.

It also makes things quite awkward for referencing, a good example will be what was previously discussed on here, hammerite, am i supposed to say "a well known oil based paint commonly used for metals"?

It's a shameless thing some people do, and you could say more fool the person taken in by it. It shouldn't stop genuine workshoppers from discussing the good and bad on brands in general.

All seems a bit daft to me. Surely if a poster gives sufficient hints so that a reader knows which company he is referring to then he may as well give the proper name and be done with it.

Various other forums actively block links to other sites and so replacing some of these sites title letters with characters, defeats the auto blocking.

I agree Roger although perhaps it's a case of 'naming calls' so don't mention 'old nick' by name or he may turn up. If you say the name of a certain company selling operating systems you might bring an upgrade on. Maybe we should have nicknames for all the usual suspects. At least it would make a change from grumbling about BT. . . . . (oooops) now I've done it.

Started of at local car boot. Found a nice Cullman Monopod (camera tripod) £15, followed by man with tin with lots of taps dies reamers tool bits etc. After some negotiation bought the whole tin full of him. Then man selling loose brand new Sherwood stub drills, picked up 8, 9,11,12, 13mm (unfortunately no 10mm) for £2.

Day then got better, wife had spotted a astronomical telescope on tripod in local charity shop, we went for a gander. it was a Tasco 302012, 115mm objective 900mm focal length. Load of eyepieces, 4, 9, 10, 15, 20 mm, 3 x Barlow Lens, Moon Filter, collimation lens, and also the electric gearbox and controller to drive the hour declination gear. It was all immaculate – £69. It came home with me. 50 plus years since last had a astronomical telescope. Just need a good clear night now.

At this morning's Car Boot Sale …

Bought a NEWLEC NLLOOPT1 'Loop Tester' [Made by AVO]

A clean-up and fresh batteries, and all appears good.

We have a few electricians on the forum, so could some kind soul provide a copy of the operating instructions ?

                      Thanks

Excellent find. Although I suspect some of the higher magnifications are more than a bit optimistic!

I found a few reviews and it seem it has a decent 1.25" focuser and the 4 1/2 aperture isn't bad at all and will reward you if you invest in some reasonable quality 1.25" eyepieces (assuming it has come with 0.925" cheapies).

I didn't do this ALL today, in fact it took a long time, spread over an even longer time. It's a replacement in aluminium of the broken plastic wheelnut seen alongside, from a large-scale Ford GT40 model. A client's son spent all his saved-up pocket money, then found the broken lug upon delivery. An unsympathetic seller, and no supplier of spares, persuaded me to offer to make one. It may not be perfect, well, in fact it's not, but I reckon it should be good enough to pass at first glance, and it will hold that all-important fourth wheel on.

                                      From the Paedia of Wiki:

"Megger Instruments Limited was based at AVO’s Dover site, in Archcliffe Road, Dover, CT17 9EN, Kent, England, which is also the present location of the UK branch of the company.

In 1991, due to the popularity of the AVO products the company changed the name to AVO Megger Instruments Limited. In 2000 the company became known as AVO International Holdings Limited and in 2002 as AVO International Limited.

Finally the whole Megger group changed its name to Megger Group Limited in 2002, as it is known today."

Be very careful buying stuff from Argos

I bought a chair from them 4 months ago & found that i had inadvertly agreed to subscribe to a thing called "Complete save". which cost me £ 15-00 per month deducted from my credit card payments. unfortunately as I was on holiday sailing for a few months my wife paid my card payments ( Now i bet a few of you are jealous !!!) so I did not know about this deduction.

They claim that i filled in a form with address & credit card details etc etc but i swear i did not & I have been scammed. Argos were not prepared to help

Barclaycard would not help so I have lost £ 30-00 for 2 months payment & i am waiting to see if a third one comes through .They do not reply to emails but did reply to phone calls ( how much the call cost is unknown)- the company is based in Switzerland & has a sister scammer company which is said to follow up the scam
