Warco WM16 spindle speed display stuck on zero

With the arrival of the bank holiday weekend I was looking forward to the first proper run with my new WM16 mill – only to find the spindle speed display seems to be stuck on a permanent zero. Very frustrating indeed. Does anybody know if there is a quick fix, or will it be a return to Warco ? I’ve checked the electrical connections and they all look solid.

Dunno the answer David but my WM16/18 lookalike is doing similar things. In my case it's all over the place: sometimes zero, sometimes OK, sometimes all over the place.

I need to take the cover off and check the slotted-disk/sensor area to see if something's come loose or maybe something has got trapped in there. Also check the connections I guess.

I had a similar problem with my WM-16 mill, where the speed display worked for a few seconds then went blank. It was almost out of the guarantee, and Warco were very helpful over the phone. By a process of elimination (cleaning the sensor disc, replacing the wire from the sender etc) they sent me a new Speed Control Board that I fitted (all plug connectors) and that fixed the problem.

Had a similar problem on mine when I got it had it replaced under warranty, tinkled with it after removal & found the small screws holding the back plate on were loose…? Snugged up & it’s now on my bench drill as a depth gauge… Result!

I found a grease build up on the sensor pick up,cleaned it off and all systems go.

Sure enough the underside of the sensor had grease on it, and one clean later it’s now working just fine.
