Coming up this weekend is the latest exhibition offering of the St Albans & District Model Engineering Society

24 and 25 September

At Townsend School which is at the north end of the city(top left corner) but there are plenty of official looking yellow signs around the major roads. A couple of miles from the dreaded M25 and the M1 which may be crowded with northerners coming to our show.

Includes boats, flying things, steam engines, Meccano, train rides, radio controlled trucks, home made cakes, lots of stuff…….

Well I went along today, a very broad range of things – a radio controlled Hot air balloon!

Nice to see some RC boats in a 'test pond' including a great little fast submarine.

Two portable tracks in action plus 4" (I guess) Allchin and a couple of Foden steam lorries, the largest in steam.

Lot of focus on boats and meccano (some amazing meccano models) and a smattering of model engineering mixed in. No big traders but I got a good deal on a hefty chunk of brass bar and parts of a simple flow meter which will give me a useful stack of nylon gear pairs.

Hi Neil, glad you were able to make it but sorry not to meet up with you though I was on the flying field entrance duty most of the day so we may have unwittingly met.
We were a little light on static engineering models this year as the loco boys were concentrating on running the show and putting on the live steam track so will have to sort that out next year. Also normally North London put on a stand like they had at Brooklands but two consecutive weekends sap their energy. Please move MEX dates next year
The Alchin was a 5 or 6 in I think. It is a nicely proportioned engine which shows up well in the larger scale and makes a welcome change from the ubiquitous Burrell.
