I made some finishing touches to my rotary valve engine and here is a short video. It is based on the River Queen design with changes to suit the materials I had to hand and my own ideas. I had thought I might need seals on the rotary valve but I managed to get a very close fit and leakage is minimal. The success has inspired me to have a go at a Coomber type rotary piston engine as my next project.

That sounds like a very sweet runner – the Coomber will be an interesting project, to Elmers design?

The Coomber will be to my own design but inspired by the JdW layout, I tend to follow this path with most of my models as it allows me to use material I have, incorporate my ideas and match my workshop equipment, an elderly S7 and a BCA jig borer. There will be 2 major departures, I am thinking to use a circle as the ‘cam’ and to use to 2 cylinders / 2 pistons. I cannot see the reason for the cam as drawn out by Elmers and others and my (very) crude wooden mock up shows using a circle should be OK. I would be interested on others’ thoughts particularly if experience has shown it will not work.
