Reilang oilers

I have two Reilang oilers; one works and one doesn't and I can't find out why the one doesn't.

They are very simple bits of kit – two telescopic brass tubes with a compression spring in them and a ball valve on the outboard end.

The ball is free to come off its seat, I don't see any damage to the seat, nothing else amiss that I can see but it just won't pump.

Anybody got any ideas what to look for/at? Is there another ball at the base of the spout that I haven't noticed?

Not had mine for long, I did find a video on the subject of dismantling them while investigating before buying one.

There is a ball and spring at the spout base.

Well, I watched the video. The design of the oilers has certainly changed since mine were made but the basic idea is still the same.

I stripped mine down once again, poked around a bit and reassembled it. It now works, but which bit of poking did the trick, I know not.

All it takes is a small particle of dirt stuck on the valve surface and they don't work, simply stripping & rebuilding often dislodges something on the valve face causing failure to generate the required pressure to flow oil,
