Hi Guys need a bit more help if you can please.

I have just rebuilt engine with super heater repaired,

I have just tried to raise steam again but its blowing through the sniffing valve.

not sure witch way it goes on at moment got it so it blows out but if you suck the ball bearing blocks the air of.

should i have fitted it the other way round so it cant blow out only suck in please.

If not what would cause it to blow out !!!

hope some one can tell me want to take to club tomorrow and try it

      Ron

        Hi Ron,

It shouldn't blow out – only suck air in. It's there to allow the cylinders to draw air through the superheater elements when the loco is coasting with the regulator shut. It should snap shut and seal as soon as you open the regulator again.

Hi Guys well a lot been happening lately after so many problems.

Decided to rebuild the engine as having to many problems thought it would be far better.

With the Help of our Rugely club members who have been amazing.

Found problem with valve gear pin damaged then water feed pipe was to small for automatic water feed.

Spring had gone on oil pump so was not working.

on top of that made a new screw regulator tried to keep old cheese type regulator but could not get to seal.

Of the engine you could blow through perfect but every time when fitted it leaked.

In the end a tool maker from our club took it with him and made the screw type to try.

The train in the meantime has had a repaint new running boards.

With the already added blow down valve water gauge new pipe through boiler for blow down valve.

plus new pipes all brazed glands all repacked and refitted.

Whilst boiler was of they gave it a new boiler certificate after pumping to 160 psi.

Just waiting for the parts to come back and then get on with refitting and hopefully a steam test.

When i finally get my steam test will post a pic for you to see
