      Hello all.

The pictured item came with my milling machine. It's obviously a quick release clamp of some form, just wondering what they would usually be used for. Repetitive work? The travel of the moving jaw is about 2mm.

And what would it be called?

      Many thanks.

From your pictures it looks as if the clamping face is held against a central thrust point by a spring at either end. If so then when the clamp is tightened up the clamping face can move to accommodate any small misalignments. My guess is that it is a low level clamp with a gripping face that can adjust to a slightly out of true face of a piece of work that is supported against some fixed clamps on the table.

Well thats my guess and I wait to be corrected by the more knowledgible members of this forum.

Hi Martin – yes, that's my opinion too. The clamp would adjust to a slight angle.

Would just like to know what it would be typically used for – as I can't think of anything.

            Regards,

            Mike.

Quick clamps are often used for holding items for engraving.

It's a bit like the Hold and Fold clamps used for bending the brass etching made for plastic model kits.

Mac, imagine you have to reduce 1000, three inch lengths of 1/4" bar to, say .200" on your milling machine. set a thin stop on one side use this beast on the otherside and you are away!
