Not oil-cans as such but I have found the pumps from liquid-soap dispensers useful for decanting lubricating-oils, wood-preservatives and the like from full 5l cans.

They are also a source of springs, some in stainless-steel – safety-valve candidates?

Guy Lautard once wrote about oilcan probs and how he solved them. He bought a new grease gun and modified it. Sorry, but cannot now remember in which of his books that it appeared.

          Andrew,

Being curious/nosey, what's that contraption mounted on a board behind the home made oilcan?

I have several metal oil cans supplied with the lathe and mill and they all leak. I have a 30 year old simple plastic can that doesn't leak and I use it in any orientation.

This type of oil can I have:oil can

I have one of those also. As soon as I turn it up to oil something oil always runs down the outside of the spout. I have several Wesco cans and none of them leak enough oil to bother about. I have several "railway" type tip up oilcans which are good & non leak but no good for pressured applications.

            regards

              Hi John

              Contraption??!!surprise

Its a half built IC engine, based roughly on one of Brian Rupnow's designs, he gives them all names but I have forgotten which one I used for inspiration but it has an overhead cam.

Having built a Potty mill engine and a Monitor I thought I should make an IC engine but stalled when it came to making the cams. I do not have a dividing head and could not see an easy way. The model got pushed to the back and I made a Corliss instead, in the photo you can see a scrap cylinder, milled the steam chest too deep.

I do plan to finish the IC engine, just waiting for the right inspiration to come along.

              Andrew
