whats the best way to mount a myford chuck to a rotary table with a 3mt taper

RDG do a mounting plate but it's only mt2 http://www.rdgtools.co.uk/acatalog/NEW-ROTARY-TABLE-ADAPTOR-PLATE-FOR-MYFORD-THREAD-Stumpy-2mt-adaptor-48395.html and also my chuck is 4"

Would I just be better buying another chuck.  My rotary table is 8" so I could get a 6" chuck.  If so 3 or 4 jaw?

Start with a 3 MT blank end arbor like this :- **LINK** and make your own.

3 MT is for alignment not fixing so I'd start by turning the blank dead parallel to any convenient size. Then make the plate with Myford threaded nose and bore to match the blank end size. Cut the end off the 3 MT arbor so it seats properly in the rotary table bore and loctite plate and nose assembly onto the blank end in situ. With both bore and arbor end being parallel the assembly will take up the correct position with short arbor properly seated and plate firmly against the rotary table surface.

Jason found the easier answer whilst I was typing.

Thanks. Would that be a strong enough way to locate to the rotary table

For light and smaller work and jobs such as drilling holes at specified angular location yes. If it were something large with significant milling I'd want some extra clamping to make sure. Milling cuts are inevitably interrupted which is alway more likely to break a taper loose.

The RDG type with bolt on plate is intrinsically more secure but how necessary that extra security is with the work you do is another matter. Secure enough is secure enough.

PS Re the E-Bay link.  Go for it before someone else snaffles it.

Further to Clive's post above just drill a small hole in the side of the flange for a short screw in bar so that if you are worried about it twisting that can be clamped. Equally you have the danger of the chuck unscrewing though a momentary laps of thinking which way the forces go.
