      Ian, Muzzer….

The problem with posts on the forum, there is so much mush, that folk do not read the post to get the drift….Info is lost so quickly. Just one regress in this thread would give you what you need..

I purchased FG1 inserts in 55 and 60deg from Hoffman tooling, Germany, last year and posted details and links – ( go to the previous set of posts)

The Hoffmann contact for KOMET inserts is Katharina Hartner:

      **LINK**

      Helpful and professional.

The inserts I obtained are FG1 size- 70Euro each

Ah well, that changes them from "fairly exotic" to just "exotic. 70 Euros just for the insert is still an interesting suggestion!

Hi Guys, now that a new password has at last been sent I can finally reply. The answer to the hefty price tag is to mill your own, after all they are only HSS.

              Hi Ian,

Hoffman Group's catalogue and Eshop is iffy…They are not geared to a Web presence…Email Katharina on the link I gave and ask her direct – she will be able to help – here are the details of what you need:

              Item No – 240034 FG1 Threading blade 60° HSS-Co5

              Make: KOMET

              Item No – 240036 FG1 Threading blade 55° HSS-Co5

              Make: KOMET

When I click the MSC link (thank you for making it an actual link Murray) I get a "Your Price" of $91 for both the 60 and 55 degree FG1, MSC's numbers 62743083 and 62742994. This versus their list price of $123. As I noted earlier some of MSC's descriptions on these contain errors; neither of these inserts are for Acme threads. When I ordered these two in mid-January they cost me $88.84 each. Not inexpensive but barring breaking one in a crash they'll last most of us forever. Though at my age forever isn't as long as it used to be. BTW an on-line currency converter shows that today 70 Euros is 87.20 USD.

And Joseph, when I click your link to Katharina/Hoffmann I get a red screen with a warning that this might be a phishing site. If I click "ignore" it brings me back to this forum. Does this happen to anyone else?

                David

Some days I should just not get out of bed…No idea what link I posted for Mrs Hartner's details…Sorry..That link takes you to the Hoffman Group main site. Not sure why you get the red screen?

The two ladies I dealt with are :

                  Katharina Hartner – her email-

                  K.Hartner@hoffmann-group.com

                  And Sabina Buck

                  .Buck@hoffmann-group.com”>S.Buck@hoffmann-group.com

                  Both very helpful.

However, at David's $91.00 US price, it is cheaper via the USA! Shipping from Germany is much more than from the US to me in Namibia. I do dislike it when the vendors muck their pricing up on theirEshop! Why list the item at $123.00 hiding the fact that it is $91.00 until one tries to buy it?? Very odd..

I don't think this is really anything sinister, David

I get the same on the iPad, but the warning note actually explains the reason.

Joe's hyperlink is to an eMail address, not to a website … hence the warning.

Reviving this thread one more time. I just downloaded Komet's newest (2018) catalogue, see here: https://www.kometgroup.com/fileadmin/user_upload/9_downloads/kompass/KomPass-Turning_GB.pdf

(And I still don't know how to make a functioning link)

The FG1 and FG2 threading inserts are no longer listed. MSC still shows them available but it could well be that if one tried to order them one would find them no longer available.

Komet have been absorbed into a larger group by the looks of things, Ceratizit is the parent company

                        https://www.ceratizit.com

I was told neither the 55 degree nor the tool holders are listed anymore and the only thing I could buy was the 60 degree insert.

I did what Joe nocci advised and commissioned two blank tool holders to modify for standard inserts.

Currently at Stansted awaiting customs release.

Soon as they arrive I will post details.

                        Best regards Mick

Tools arrived safe and sound, fit perfectly on my tool post and look very good.

I will set up a threading test soon to see how the units perform.

Overall a pretty painless process in buying from a Chinese manufacturer and I'm indebted to Joe nocci on this forum for his initial information about the company and the tool holders.
