            Hi Roy,

            Welcome to the forum.

Had a quick glance at your website – like the idea of the isolating switch using the chuck key to de-activate. Wondered why something like that wasn't included as standard, then I realised that my lathe originally had a chuck guard fitted which would have solved the problem as with the guard down, it was physically impossible to leave the chuck in. Trouble is, the chuck guard caused quite a few access problems so off it came. Food for thought!

            Regards,

            Peter G. Shaw

Its a shame that people's creativity is used to make instruments that can kill.

Nice website Roy. Can't say I'm into the gun stuff though. Your chuck key article demonstrates the power of metal flung out at high speed quite enough for me!

                welcome all the same.

Ha, I remember the chuck key discussion on another forum !

Like the feed idea for the lathe and it would work on a few mills too. Have yet to look at the rest of the website but like it so far, except for the font. Could you consider popping it up a couple of points as electric paper don't cost nothin'.

                        KWIL,

Its a shame that people's creativity is used to make instruments that can kill.

                        Niko.

Well I am not new here, so I will pick it up.

How many hammers do you have Niko? There is even a whole genre of gaming called "Warhammer". War Hammers were first used by the Norse I believe. So, do you intend to kill anyone with your hammers?

No, I didn't think so. It is this really negative attitude that just appalls me. It has completely buggered up a very fascinating hobby for many, many people in this country. I have won medals for pistol shooting but I can only shoot my full bore pistols if I want to take an eight thousand mile round trip. It's like all this "knife crime". Do you think these people use beautifully crafted knives costing hundreds of pounds? No, they steal kitchen knives.

Guns used in crime – by and large – are unregistered illegal firearms. The recorded firearms owners though are always the ones who get it in the neck. It aggravates me no end.

During the twelve years up to 2011 there were three and a quarter MILLION road deaths and casualties. Using Licensed Motor Cars. Designed and manufactured by creative people.

                        pity more people don't walk.

                        graham.

Hi Roy, I have a little space round mine… at least I feel sure I can squeeze a bike or two round the back if you're that tight for space.

I'm not against guns just the nutters which get hold of them from time to time. I wouldn't say the Police here are paronoid about guns but it has been known for people to be shot carrying such things as table legs in public.

I remember headlines in Oz similar to "Son thought his father was a kangaroo while out hunting. Father on life support." Yeah right just another shooting accident. The problem with guns is the results can be a bit too final. That said I'm sure you will have plenty of interest here on the subject all be it a bit one way.

                          Oh and welcome aboard.embarrassed

It's a discussion that can't be settled and is best avoided unfortunately.

You aren't alone though and I make parts to sell at the club. I've never dreamt of harming anything but little bits of card. Those critters are ornery and deserve it wink

Fair comment. My final words on this subject (in this thread) are that we should all be a bit more tolerant of each others interests. I would never, for instance, suggest that you could be burned if you fire up a boiler. Of course you can, it goes without saying. That;s why I don't say it. Same with guns, so there is no need to air your opinion every time the subject comes up.

bit more live and let live would be nice.

This is not the place for an extended argument on the morality of guns.

Suffice to say that guns are just a tool, its what people do with them that is the issue – look what Al Quaeda did with a few retractable knives.

The skills involved in gunmaking are no less akin to the other skills in our workshops than those of clockmaking.

If people want to debate the morality of war, hunting or target shooting, there are plenty of forums where you can do this.
