      I think the forum is great. For someone like myself who is basically self-taught in all things Model Engineering, the forum provides a resource far more valuable than the large collection of books & magazines that I have read over the years to get to my current skill level. The forum allows me to ask questions, get almost instantaneous answers & develop ideas through discussion which just isn't possible by reading a book. Furthermore the forum feels like a friendly community and as such would now be greatly missed by me if it were to be wound up.

      There seems to be a core of perhaps 20 to 30 regular posters who always seem willing to offer advice, encouragement and discussion and I feel they should be thanked for the value of their input to those of us who are less knowledgeable.

      Cheers guys, keep up the good work!

      Regards, Martin.

            Yep Phil

            1000 times more useful than "Twitbook" would still be useless.;

              Why should it be wound up as there is a body of advertisers supporting it (that is all the B****y beancounters look at), and also if it was attempted there is an extremely strong body of people who would prop it up and keep it going, I for one…

                Sorry Bob, I wasn't implying that the forum might be wound up, just replying to Bazyles' original posting which asked how members would feel if the plug was pulled on the forum. I quite agree with you that there is probably plenty enough activity on the forum to keep the bean counters happy and it is clearly of great benefit to the Model Engineering/ hobby engineering fraternity.

                Regards, Martin.

                  I visit daily, usually twice, first in my lunch break then at home of an evening. I do the same with three other motorcycle forums and my email account. It's up there with my virtual essentials in life.

                  I have benefited from some very helpful advice since getting my lathe in September 2009. People have been very helpful. Now I realise that my life would be dramatically improved by a purpose built heated workshop with a PC in there so that's is my current project.

                  I would miss it if it were not here. I am a member of an Amercian based forum but it's not the same. The posts are the wrong way round (latest first) and it's very "big is best" so I have dropped off visiting there.

                    As a beginner I have found the information invaluable, on all aspects of our hobby. I try and look in at least once a day to see what is being discussed.

                    Long may it remain so.

                      I must admit, I enjoy reading about model engineering as much as being in the workshop. I find the forum is more 'family friendly' too – right now I'm diligently avloiding booking the online payday shop…
