Identify this rod

A friend of a friend is trying to repair this clock, I was emailed this picture asking if I knew what this rod is for, can anyone shed light on this??

Possibly for Strike/Silent selection

… or maybe for ‘Strike Repeat’

Seeing that the clock has countwheel striking, It can't be for repeat. I would suggest that it is either Strike / Silent, or more likely to make the clock strike so that by striking forwards the strike and time can synchronize.
