I think most have been spoiled the last 25 years on cheap asian imports that may or may not do the job, certainly wont last. That kept the quality tooling low, now 25 years on their prices have risen drastically in a few years now they have collared the market. Good news is quality tooling has also risen at least 50% – 150%.
The only way you will get a quality machine is to buy secondhand and bide your time. Decipher whether these old brand names are living on a past well regarded name (quite a lot) so do some checking on the individual machine. Good period late 60's to mid 80's.
Even a clapped out quality jobby is going to be better than the new current crop in 18 months – if used.
Vertex are usually good, do have an 8" RT used to be used daily up to two years ago from 1999, many thousands of revolutions per year. Nearly bought a BS0 but didnt like £500 back then. On the other hand they dont make everything they brand as theirs.
