It says they copied Lorch lathes. See Lorch Type AVI-K/AVII-K. Lorch

If you know for certain it is a Steadall take some high quality photos and provide them to Tony of the Lathes site wo he can include them for the record..

Looks like a typical Stedall layout except it appears to have a belt cover and a gap bed. Is the motor in the base?

Is it a STEDALL ? The plate says Supplied by STEDALL. Have a good look at the tailstock end of the bed and see if you can see any other identification.

                        .

yes The text on the previously-linked lathes.co.uk is quite helpful in that regard.

… and the mention of Manchester, on that plate, should assist with dating it.

Could this be a Smart & Brown?…possibly an early/prototype 'Sabel'? The shape of the headstock and the cast base look very S&B and the stripped down pix look even more similar………I'm probably wrong but there DOES look like some kind of link.

EDIT;…Take a look at page 2 of S&B 'L' model lathes on lathesUK here, many of the parts look similar…

As suggested by previous posts Smart and Brown tool room lathe . Stedall is just the supplier . Very good machine , built like a tank and capable of very accurate work when in fine fettle.
