Emergency Stop on Super 7 Industrial stand

I've a single phase Super 7 with industrial stand, and think its advisable to fit an emergency stop button (Screwfix sell them). Any advise on the wiring? I was thinking of mounting to the right of the control panel, on the angled section so I could knock with my knee if necessary. Does that seem appropriate?

You can wire up more than one switch if you want to.

Personally I would fit a contactor in a box with the knock off button(s) wired through the contactor coil circuit. The lathe, or workshop, power supply going through the contactor.

Hi Steve

I take it you have a push button contactor type starter fitted so it will be a case of wiring the new stop switch in series with the existing stop circuit, so 2 conductors from the starter control circuit to the EM stop, possibly also an earth (cpc) if new stop is metal cased.

Do you have a no-volt-release switch (NVR) ? Some incorporate the emergency stop for no extra money. In an emergency will you think of using your knee for anything? I have been meaning to make a system based on a string or bar across the top of the lathe forward of the bed such that if I had a stroke or was pulled in by my hair/glove/tie/clothing I would fall on the bar

I’ve the standard base-mounted panel, so the start/stop thumb buttons. Not sure if the Stop is nvr, but it’s quite small for an emergency I’d have thought

I think the emergency stop system in the local High School metal work shop is virtually a bit of string that surrounds the workshop, and when its pulled, it pulls the plug out of the socket.

Steve, if you have a DOL starter fitted you will hear the contactor close when pressing the start button, and like wise hear the contactor drop out when stop is pressed.
On the ML7 stand I used to have the starter was an MEM DOL semi recessed mounting.

Have mine fitted where the coolant pump switch used to be. See pic.

You can just wire the EStop across the normal stop button, the existing wiring gubbins (sorry about the technical term) provides NVR protection.

Yes that's pretty much what I was after. I've the suds pump working, so was going to mount on the adjacent angled section.
