Thanks for that Terry. Will guide people to Samll Battery Company in case of need.

        Terryd.

No money to throw away (unfortunately), but with a Maplin close to home and for one battery every year or longer it hardly seems a major issue.

Machine DRO supply them at a good price, I have noticed packs of 5 on their stand at ME exhibitions.

Also they feature via the advert on this page.

For anyone interested, go to Buy a battery . co .uk they have genuine Varta SR44's and many other types.I have dealt with them for a few years now ,very good source for almost every battery type you can think of, and very good service. No connection , just a satisfied customer.

            Regards,

            Raymond.

I generally use LR44/AG13 cells for all sorts of things. Whether they are pound shop or top-notch from Farnell they all seem to last about a year and give up in late to midwinter.

This is because they discharge much less efficiently at low temperatures, so they can cope with the tiny standby current ofa DRO all year long, until the cold weather hits.

For those who want to remote power the simple DROs, try using an LED as a voltage regulator – it works! At low currents the Vf of a red LED is about 1.6V within spec for an SR44/LR44 powered device.

I have a solar calculator with a green L:ED hidden inside – when the panel is in sunshine, the LED lights up to burn the excess current.
