I've just posted about Rod Stewart's bottom only to find that Michael Gilligan had got in first with a similar notion, apparently 14 minutes earlier. Now the strange thing is Michael's post wasn't visible when I typed mine in.

More. Most evenings I keep an eye on the forum whilst watching TV and I often have a look during breakfast as well. Every so often I see posts (sometimes many posts) from the previous evening that I would swear weren't there at the time.

This is making me wonder if there is some strange buffering going on. I refresh the screen manually and would expect that to flush out new posts. Has anyone else noticed a delayed action issue? If not I may have a fault at my end.

      Thanks,

      Dave

Certain posts may be flagged for moderation/approval before going live.

I've speculated that there may be a delay (for other users) when you post to give leeway for you to edit your message if you want.

I think I have noticed similar – all of a sudden a thread appears with several replies and I'm sure I have not seen it before.

Very few threads have a delay due to moderation, some of the ones about suppliers do, the recent 10% discount from ARC being one recent example.

I wondered that too but your quick answer suggests otherwise in that the Edit button on my original post is still active, and I can see yours.

I've never noticed one of my own posts failing to appear immediately.

                Ta,

The chief effect is a simple one, many users load several pages from the 'latest posts' links and may not read them until later without realising further posts may have been added. This can affect anyone and isn't as severe as what we used to suffer in the days of 'off line readers' (OLR lag).

When you get a really big change, it usually means you have clicked on a link on the latest posts list or the latest posts page that was generated some time ago. If the list is a couple of hours old because you haven't refreshed it AND you have it set to 'go to latest page' it will take you to the latest page for when the list was generated. If the topic has since gotten a page longer, you may not notice the link to the extra page and not see the extra postings until you post your own message.

There are also occasional glitches that mean a user's posts get stuck in the system for a while. As Jason says only a few topics are pre-moderated as well as new members early postings.

Which – considering the OP – begs a question: are you moderating Michael Gilligan?

I blame the the delays on low steam pressure at my end frown
