I have a 5″ SPEEDY loco which has developed a steam leak between the main cylinder casting and the cylinder of the piston valve. Its not dramatic, but I would like to seal it.

Two thoughts come to mind, one was to use a “loctite” product with good creep properties, but which one and the other was to remove all pistons etc, heat and apply some soft solder.

Unfortunately I do not know which is at fault, the machining of the piston valve cylinder or the main cylinder block and as the piston valve cylinder should be a force fit, I hesitate pushing it out to find out.

      Any suggestions ?

Bob, you could just leave it and see if scale seals it eventually if it is just a wisp.

          Possibly car radiator sealer
